Strategic Planning & Review

Any business can benefit from a Strategic Plan, and as with a business plan, this should be a written document that is regularly reviewed. If not, how will you know whether you are making progress in the right direction and the right areas?

A strategic planning session should look at every aspect of the business. It isn't enough just to look at one or two isolated areas, as they do not give you a full picture. Are you heading in the right direction with the plans you currently have? Are the small changes you are making congruent with the big picture and your business and personal goals?

Once you have looked in detail at the whole business, you can start to build an action plan, and break it down to form small steps with milestones along the way that you can aim towards individually; you will never achieve the big goal without making a succession of small steps to get there.

That sounds great, but what areas should be considered? There may be some that would be specific to different businesses, but a starting subject list would always include the following:

  • Marketing
  • Finance / Investment
  • Sales
  • HR / Recruitment
  • Development
  • Legal

As you can see, some of these are outside of our area of expertise, so it would be at this point that we would call in the business owner's other advisors, or call on our extended networks for support if there were none already in place.

During this process, it usually becomes apparent that there are obstacles that are stopping you reaching your goals, and we would work with you to formulate a plan for overcoming them. These could be as simple as helping you find time to focus on key elements of business development, identify the right team members to bring in or develop further, or to set up processes to monitor the financial aspects of the business. There are a wide range of areas to consider!

Once established, the strategic plan would be built in to your regular review process, whether with us or internally, providing you with the proof that you are making real progress with the business, or showing you which areas are lacking the focus required to do so.

Businesses that have a clear strategic plan that is regularly reviewed are statistically proven to achieve their goals for success. If you would like our help in increasing your chances of success, contact us to discuss how a completely bespoke strategic planning or review session could help.
